I recently wrote my first guest blog post for Martina over at the KetoDiet website. I really like Martina’s blog — it’s a great mix of beautifully photographed recipes and up-to-date, accurate information on living a very-low-carb lifestyle.

Click here to read my article on the many benefits and few potential drawbacks of very-low-carbohydrate ketogenic diets. While you’re there, check out Martina’s wonderful recipes, articles, and the KetoDiet iPhone and iPad apps.

  1. Hello Franziska,
(I actually wrote this after reading your article from the ADA 4/3/13 but decided to comment here because it was a little hard to navigate back to the older article and the subject here is somewhat similar)

I know that this comment comes a considerable time after your article and you have many since but I just found it (new to me)so will comment anyway.

We have only spent ten thousand years at most with a diet even close to the modern diet recommended by the experts. And really only 50 years because of the 1970’s recommendations of low fat, high carb, and polys instead of delicious butter and lard which continued to be used up until that time.

I continue to find it amazing that the nutrition experts and physicians just cannot wrap their heads around the idea that our bodies, on a diet very similar to the one we evolved with for millions of years, can produce enough glucose to power our brains. Not only enough but, imagine that, exactly the right amount and when you need it…………without any grain or starch based carbohydrate. That’s just the crazy talking!

Low carb/high fat equals food that is delicious and filling, and nearly effortless weight control. It does seem that there are more experts coming around but you are definitely on the front lines of this battle. Thank you and keep up the work.

Thanks so much for your comments and words of support, Rick! I completely agree with your sentiments. Changing minds takes time, and fortunately, as you said, more medical professionals are coming around, so I’m very encouraged.
